Whatever the era, every motoring fan has their favourite classic car from the past. Since the early 1900s, each decade has brought us new cars and new designs, and there are now thousands of classics out there for avid car lovers to enjoy.
But which classic car is your perfect match?
Our Top 5 Classic Cars
Now that you know which classic car you are, we thought we’d run through our top picks of our favourite classic cars of all time. Here are five vintage motors we simply couldn’t imagine the world without.
5. Lamborghini Miura
The Miura might not be anywhere near as outlandish looking as the later Countach, but we think its combination of beauty and driveability make it a much better all-round car. The car was launched in 1966 and named after a famous breed of fighting bull, which gives you a good indication of what it’s like to drive.
4. Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic
We had to squeeze at least one Bugatti on to our shortlist, and our pick is the formidable Type 57SC Atlantic. Designed by Ettore Bugatti’s son, Jean, the 57SC was a masterclass in mid-30s luxury car design, with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from the legendary French manufacturer. For its time, the 57SC was one of the fastest and most advanced cars on the road, and this legacy is reflected in today’s valuation: £20 million.
3. Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale
Alfa Romeo may not have the best track record for reliability, but no one can deny that they’ve built some pretty cars over the years. Launched in 1967, the 33 Stradale was such a model, combining sweeping Ferrari-esque curves with a bubble-glass roof that could only be Alfa Romeo. Only 18 Stradales were built in the car’s run, but the model is still considered one of the best looking cars Alfa have ever produced.
2. Aston Martin DB4 Zagato
We could have picked any vintage Aston Martin for this shortlist, but the DB4 Zagato couldn’t be side-lined. A remastering of the already sublime DB4, this model was tweaked and improved by Italian coachbuilders Zagato, who upgraded the engine and streamlined the body to increase the car’s top speed. The finished product was the ultimate GT car, a performance machine that could take you across the continent in total refinement, style without any performance trade-offs.
1. Ferrari 250 GTO
Lauded by many as the greatest Ferrari of all time, the 250 GTO embodies everything that the world loves about the legendary Italian car manufacturer. Built between 1962 and 1964, the GTO featured a pioneering V12 engine which could rocket it to 60mph in 6 seconds – an unparalleled pace for the era. The car is also defined by its beautiful body, which was designed by Giotto Bizzarrini and Mauro Forghieri. Today, it stands as one of the world’s most expensive classics, with experts valuing the 250 GTO at around £44 million.
